Photos: The Hermit of King Hill

George F. Wiley lived alone for 52 years on his King Hill pasture, near the New London - Sutton town line. He attributed his happiness to chewing tobacco and good music, which he often made himself by playing a variety of instruments (shown below). During the Depression, he also said that his Civil War pension provided him with more money than he could possibly use. George died in 1932 at the age of 88. These photographs were published by a Boston newspaper in 1928.
