Then & Now: Main Street

A photograph from 1890 shows New London’s Main Street as a dirt road, passable but rutted during the spring thaw. The scene is almost unrecognizable until we look at the present day image and realize we have just traveled over the very same ground, now asphalt-covered and frost-heaved in winter. Examine pairs of images in this exhibit, and you may be surprised at how easily you can place yourself in both photographs. The historic photographs included here range from the 1890s to 1950s; their present day equivalents were all taken in the late spring of 2009. We hope you will take some time to make comparisons with the past, reflect on the present, and consider the future of New London.    VIEW SLIDES & NOTES.
