During World War II, the Office of War Information (OWI) hired dollar-a-year advertising executives, graphic designers, and artists to create a public campaign for the war effort. Shown here are samples of the nearly one hundred posters in the New London Archives collection. These images were displayed in New London's post office, stores, and other public places. The OWI requested designs falling into these general themes: the nature of the enemy, the nature of our allies, the need to work, the need to fight, the need to sacrifice, and the need to preserve basic freedoms. ▶ VIEW SLIDES & NOTES.
